BirkenEd’s Place – w/c 17th July

25th July 2023

Last week was our final week of delivering our Northside and Scotts Quay engagements. We are very grateful to all who contributed their views towards these projects, suggesting valuable ideas regarding local employment, residential development, and climate conscious urban design. If you missed this engagement or would like to contribute more to it, you can still get involved via Wirral Council’s ‘Have Your Say’ website here, where an online consultation is being held for the Northside scheme until 6th September 2023.

Last week in BirkenEd’s Place, we also hosted the final North End Sketch Club. Led by Artist Jayne Lawless of the Dead Pigeon Gallery, North End Sketch Club is a project that takes an incredibly creative approach to learning about places and that champions the meditative and potentially community-centred qualities of drawing. Over the last few weeks, we have had the pleasure of working with Jayne in Birkenhead, hosting her sketching workshops at different sites across the town, including Birkenhead Park and the Priory. Jayne’s last session this week focused on Grange Precinct – the shopping area in the centre of town. The session then culminated at BirkenEd’s Place, where sketchers could view the space and contribute their views to regeneration and development plans. We have been delighted to have had the opportunity to connect to Sketch Club via our work at BirkenEd’s. You can find out more about North End Sketch Club here.

Our next engagement, on display from 24th July until 5th August, will be Dock Branch Masterplan – a project that will create a linear park with walking and cycling routes and a new well-connected green neighbourhood in central Birkenhead.

The return of Dock Branch to BirkenEd’s also sees the return of our very popular Dock Branch walking tours. Join Cathy Palmer of Wirral Council to explore the often unseen parts of the Dock Branch railway line, soon to be a beautiful linear park. There are two tours taking place on Monday 31st July that you can book onto via the links below (click the links below to be directed to our Eventbrite pages). Make sure to book your place – it’s not to be missed!
